Sustainability

The development of Norwegian salmon farming takes environmental, economic and social conditions into account. Sustainable development meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Sustainable development emphasizes environmental, economic and social conditions, and tries to find a good balance between these three aspects.

QUESTION:

How much antibiotics are used in the salmon production?

ANSWER:

In the last twenty years, national and international food authorities have not been able to find antibiotics in Norwegian farmed salmon. In 2016, 212 kilo active substance of antibiotics were used by the Norwegian salmon farming industry. This means that today, a miniscule 0,14 grams of antibiotics are used in the production per metric ton of salmon. In other words, antibiotics is today a non-issue in the Norwegian salmon industry. In fact, less than one percent of all farmed salmon from Norway are treated.

Food safety

In Norway, food safety has a high priority. In aquaculture this means having a regulated and transparent system to ensure that the seafood we produce and eat is safe.
